We are a Private Christian School which files a yearly affidavit with the state of California on behalf of ten to twenty-five families. Our Private School Satellite Program (PSP) allows parents to determine the curriculum, goals and timing of their children's education.

Aslan Academy is a mid-north Orange County group (Los Alamitos, Garden Grove, Westminster, Stanton, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, and Orange). We do accept enrollment for people living in other Orange County cities, however, our park days and functions center in these areas.  If you live in one of the surrounding outskirt cities and join Aslan, please note that you are agreeing to participate in our activities that will on most occasions require driving to one of these locations.

INVOLVEMENT

Members are required to attend two events per quarter and volunteer for one required sign-up during the active school year (September 1st - May 31st). However, we encourage and expect higher participation as our purpose, stated above, is not just attending an activities here and there, but rather we are supporting and encouraging each another in our homeschooling endeavor, and this cannot be accomplished without spending time around each other. 

There are several other opportunities available to support our school throughout the year.  Members can volunteer to sign up for such needs as purchasing school t-shirts, scheduling school photos, planning our  promotion ceremony, hosting a monthly Mom's Morning/Night Out, producing our yearbook, compiling & publishing our student newsletter, publishing a monthly calendar, assist in planning an occasional quarterly school-wide activity, maintaining our school website, and administrator.

The current required sign-up’s include: planning and facilitating a craft, sports day, ministry activity, field trip, or a (single) quarterly junior/senior high fellowship activity. 

Enrolled members are also required to attend two mandatory meetings each year: September Mom's Morning Out and May Mom's Morning Out. Both of these meetings are from 8am - 10am on the third Saturday of the month.  There is a $25 fee for missing either of these meetings.  If you miss both meetings within a year, your re-registration may be denied the following year. Attending our monthy Mom’s Mornings/Nights Out do not count toward required attendance.

ACTIVITIES

Park Days:  All Fridays, except the third Friday of the month - from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.  Throughout the year we have structured activities each month; such as CRAFT DAY, SPORTS DAY and LEARN-N-SHARE DAY.  These may vary as we attempt to meet the changing needs of the school.  We try to keep things central, but our park days are spread out: Los Alamitos (Rossmoor), Costa Mesa (TeWinkle), Anaheim (Twila Ried), Orange (Eisenhower) and Westminster (Bolsa Chica), Garden Grove (Eastgate) and Huntington Beach (Huntington Central), as well as others.  In September and May, weather permitting, we may go to the beach instead of a park.  If there is a 5th Friday, we usually choose a special park to have an adventure in. 

Ministry Days: Planned by volunteers on the 3^rd Friday of the month.  Depending on the ministry activity, we may meet at the park or we may meet on another day in the month.  Past ministries include: Garden Grove Convalescent Hospital, Quaker Gardens Convalescent Home, Second Harvest Food Bank gleaning, and Operation Christmas Child.

Jr/Sr High Quarterly Fellowship / Activities: Planned by volunteers. Planner may choose to facilitate one activity for the quarter they sign-up for, or plan one activity per month within that quarter. Past activities have included miniature golf, game night, beach/pool parties, volunteering at Operation Christmas Child warehouse, attending a play, bowling, scavenger hunt, college tours and progressive dinners.

Mom's Morning Out:  Hosted by volunteers 8:00-9:30 a.m. on the 3rd Saturday of the following months: September, December, April and May.  September and May are mandatory business meetings. April is also a business meeting (however, not mandatory) at which we will do any voting that needs to take place (administrator, bylaws, etc).  December is a fellowship meeting/Christmas party.

Mom's Night Out: Hosted by volunteers 7:00-9:00 p.m. on the 3rd Thursday of the following months: October, November, January, and March. This is a time to fellowship and enjoy each others' company -- intended for building one another up in the LORD and gaining encouragement in our home educating endeavors.

Monthly Field Trips: Planned by volunteers and paid individually as needed. We do not collect a monthly tuition.

Other Activities: Aslan has other activities throughout the school year. These include: school photos, promotion ceremony in June where certificates of completion are awarded, and occasional quarterly school-wide activities. These include; Open House, Faculty Appreciation Night, potlucks/bbq’s/picnics and game nights.  Open House usually has a theme such as hobbies, science fair, school projects, etc.  Extended family and friends are encouraged to participate in our open house and promotion ceremony.

REGISTRATION

New enrollment is May 1st - May 31st.  The registration fee for new enrollment is $50 per family.  Re-registration is March 15th - April 30th.  The yearly re-registration fee is $30 per family.  The fee pays for donations, newsletters, copies, supplies, stamps and special activities.  Once approval has been determined, all record keeping items and forms must be received on the date due or registration will be null and void.   Because we operate in a co-op style, everyone is expected to follow through with what they have agreed to.  The registration fee is non-refundable once your application has been approved, as we feel it is your responsibility to carefully and prayerfully research and select the PSP that best meets your family’s needs.

Belonging to a private school PSP does not guarantee safety from public school officials.  Aslan Academy cannot defend you in a court of law.  For this reason, if you join Aslan, membership with Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is mandatory ($95 with a CHEA membership, $115 non-members). We do not accept registration if you belong to charter schools or have any public school affiliation. 

RECORD KEEPING
A private school has the responsibility to assess the progress and achievement of its students. For this purpose the following paperwork is maintained by the school.

Family/school file includes: registration forms, HSLDA membership information, and teacher qualifications and liability release forms (must be completed and signed at the beginning of each school year for all members and all minor children).

Student file includes: health records (school entry and immunizations/or waivers), yearly proposed course of studies, and yearly attendance for all grades.

Assessment test results are strongly suggested near the completion of 6th, 8th or 9th, and 12th year level work.  It is the parent's choice on which assessment test to use. Jr/Sr high grades are submitted each semester and elementary grades submit a year end evaluation.

The parent maintains course descriptions for secondary students (7-12). If Aslan Academy is requested to provide a transcript or diploma then additional information needs to be submitted for consideration of either.

We highly recommend that you keep inclusive evidence of instruction such as: course descriptions, lesson plans, journals, outlines, goals and samples of student work - whatever you use to show evidence of instruction.

CURRICULUM
Each family is responsible for choosing, purchasing and implementing their own curriculum.
